CEIDIO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST. CEIDI0 (Plate 39),\u00a0standing on a hillock within a circular raised churchyard, is an\u00a0undivided structure 29 ft. by 15ft. The walls are of roughly\u00a0coursed boulders, the upper courses rebuilt. The W. gable<br \/>\nwith its bell-cote and doorway, the windows and the roof covering\u00a0are modern. The roof utilises three trusses of <em>ca<\/em>.\u00a01500, which are arch-braced, the \u00a0soffits \u00a0plain chamfered, and\u00a0have diagonal struts cusped to form a quatrefoil between\u00a0trefoils. Only the truss against the E. gable is certainly in <em>situ<\/em>.\u00a0The modern wind-braces may use cuts originally provided.<\/p>\n<p>Fittings.-Bracket: stone, in E. wall, S. of the E. window\u00a0at the level of its sill.<em> Tablet:<\/em> slate, in E. wall, inscribed with\u00a0quotation I Cor. xi, 28 (in Welsh), and &#8216;Rhodd Mrs. Elinor\u00a0Parry o\u00a0Penarth.&#8217; Basin (Plate 35): set in sill of S.W. window,\u00a0about 12 ins. deep, I ft. 10.5\u00a0ins. long and I0.5\u00a0ins. wide, with\u00a0levelled rim; <em>cf<\/em> font at Bryncroes (No. 1530). <em>Plate:<\/em> (i) Silver\u00a0chalice (Plate 39), inverted bell-shaped bowl on baluster stem\u00a0with splayed foot; on the bowl is engraved a laurel wreath<br \/>\nencircling a shield of arms, a <em>stag statant<\/em> (Llywarch Hwlbwrch)<br \/>\nimpaling Owain Gwynedd; under the foot is cut &#8216;Benedictione<br \/>\nDei res parva crescit&#8217;; maker&#8217;s mark WC in a shield above a\u00a0heart, and London date-letter I638-9. Height 6.25 ins. (ii) Silver\u00a0paten on base, the edge of the bowl roll-moulded; under\u00a0the foot W\/RE\/1735 showing marks of erasure; maker&#8217;s mark\u00a0TT with crown and rose in a shield (Thomas Tearle) , and\u00a0London date-letter 1723-4. Diameter 6.5 ins. <em>Seating:<\/em> initials\u00a0cut in re-used pew-ends in a style characteristic of <em>ca<\/em>. 1750;\u00a0on the S., (i) T. P. I. Esqr, (ii) Mrs Owens; on the N.,\u00a0(iii) Revr Mr W.
