At the time of the\u00a0Edwardian conquest the borough had twenty burgages, held\u00a0on such a tenure as to suggest that borough and market had\u00a0been created by one of the welsh princes on the Anglo-Norman\u00a0model, but the town plan does not indicate any\u00a0formal and regular layout, and the earliest surviving buildings\u00a0are of the 17th century.<br \/>\nA full discussion of the former topography and early\u00a0settlement, by Professor T.
