MAELRHYS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE CHURCH OF ST. MAELRHYS (Fig. 109, Plate 26) is a rectangular aisleless building, the E. portion added or\u00a0enlarged from a smaller chancel. The walls are of rubble with\u00a0boulder footings partly exposed. The slate roof and bell-cote\u00a0are modern. Existing openings are modern, though there are\u00a0blocked doorways near the W. end on the N. and S. and\u00a0blocked lights towards the E. end of the N. wall.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/crwydro.co.uk\/rhiw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/1724.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29\" src=\"http:\/\/crwydro.co.uk\/rhiw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/1724.jpg\" alt=\"1724\" width=\"451\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"http:\/\/crwydro.co.uk\/rhiw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/1724.jpg 451w, http:\/\/crwydro.co.uk\/rhiw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/1724-300x233.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 451px) 100vw, 451px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The \u00a0<em>Nave \u00a0and Chancel<\/em> (57 ft. 10\u00a0ins. by 14 ft.) abut without\u00a0clear joints, but the internal set-back in the N. wall and an\u00a0external change of alignment in the S. wall indicate the\u00a0probable junctions. These features also establish that the chancel\u00a0was added to the medieval nave, but there is nothing by\u00a0which it might be dated. Both N. and S. walls of the nave\u00a0are battered internally. The<em> N. doorway<\/em> has a roughly pointed\u00a0head of long large voussoirs, probably medieval, the blocking perhaps contemporary with the opening of the <em>S. doorway\u00a0<\/em>which has a segmental head of thinner voussoirs, possibly\u00a0post-medieval. The blocking of this doorway may be associated\u00a0with the modern rebuilding of the W. gable which has\u00a0the present entry and windows to the vestries.<br \/>\nFittings.-<em>Books:<\/em> for registers sce p. cxxxv.<em> Communion\u00a0Table:<\/em> in vestry, with baluster-type turned legs and moulded\u00a0stretchers, the top reduced; early 18th century.<em> Font:<\/em> an\u00a0irregular octagonal stone bowl (Plate 26), the N. face bearing\u00a0incised a cross formee; the short shaft has a roughly moulded\u00a0string, and the base is splayed; 15th-century. <em>Seating:<\/em> boxpews\u00a0on the S. and plain benches on the N. side inscribed<br \/>\n&#8216;Nanhoron&#8217;; mid-19th-century.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE CHURCH OF ST.
