(1692) THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST. CYNFIL

THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST. CYNFIL was rebuilt in 1842 on its old site at the summit of the gravel ridge. 1
Fittings from the former church include: Books: registers, see p. cxxxvii. Font: octagonal bowl of freestone inscribed I HS 1678, said to have been discovered in 1929 at Plas-ym Mhenros (No. 1693),2 where what appears to have been the wooden cover is incorporated in panelling; on modern pillar and base. Diameter of bowl 15 ins. Memorial: upright against outside of N. wall, stone slab, 10 ft. long, to Gruffyth ap John Wynn, 1613, above the inscription a shield showing four quarters, in each a chevron.3The Plate is modern.

Condition: rebuilt.

    Since this picture was taken the church has been converted to residential use, though the exterior remains unchanged, except for the loss of the ivy.
