THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST. GWYNININ (Plates 12,25) was rebuilt in 1840.1 Its octagonal W. turret surmounted by a drum. with conical cap resembles that of Botwnnog church (No. 1528).

Communion Rails: part re-used on screen at W. turret, 18th-century. Communion Table: plain gate-leg with stretchers 18th century,.the.top.modern. Font (Plate 25): plain circular basin, 1 ft. 8ins. in diameter and 9 ins. deep, the lower edge moulded with roll repeated at the neck, the shaft seven-sided on a chamfered plinth; 13th-14th-century. Memorials: floor slabs: (1) to Jane, Wife of Robert Jones of Ty-yn-y-cae, 1721, and Robert Jones, 1732; (ii) to Margaret, 2nd daughter of Griffith Williams, Clerk, 1727; Elizabeth, wife of Griffith WilIiams, 1710. Plate: (i) Silver chalice with deep beaker shaped bowl engraved at middle with narrow band of laurel leaves, on very slender stem with moulded rim at middle and plain moulded foot. London date-letter for 1610-II; maker’s mark, TW Y or. T YW as monogram in shield. Height 5and 5/8th ins.. (11) Belonging to it, SiIver paten-cover engraved with banding containing three rows of hyphens, the foot plain. Same makers mark. Diameter 3 ins. (iii) Paten of old Sheffield plate, a domestic salver on three feet ornamented with acanthus leaves. Diameter 8 ins.2 Seating: embodied in 19th-century box pews are re-used panels with bevelled raised fields and rounded heads, 18th-century. Stoup: a roughly squared stone with rounded bowl standing- on a rough pedestal; probably
medieval.
Condition: rebuilt.
