(1609) ENCLOSED HUT-GROUPS S.E. of Pen-bodlas

At 520 ft. above OD. (i) A roughly pentagonal enclosure is bisected by a modern field wall running E.-W. The sides measure approximately as follows: N.W., 50 ft.; N.E., 50 ft.; E., 40 ft.; S., 45 ft.; S.W., 75 ft. About the middle of the N.E. side the enclosing bank curves inwards on either side of an entrance about 12 ft. wide. There are traces of huts in the interior, a circular one against the S.W. side, and a less regular one at the S.E. angle. The enclosure and hut walls survive as overgrown banks up to 3 ft. high. (ii) About 75 yds. S.E. of (i) a disturbed area 100 ft. long from E. to W. and 55 ft. wide, bisected by a modern field wall running N.-S., probably marks the site of an enclosed hut-group. At the W. end are traces of a large round hut 26 ft. in diameter; there may have been another at the E. end. Terraces are visible on the slope below (i.e., E. of) the hut-groups, and again to the N.W. of the road between Pen-bodlas and Bodlas.
